For more than twenty years, the Roanoke community has come together each year to share a meal with a mission. Tomorrow, the Roanoke Valley SPCA’s SPAYghetti event will be back to help support the organization’s mission of reducing animal homelessness.
Marketing and Communications Director for the organization Julie Rickmond says that mission would be impossible without the spay and neuter procedures that the fundraiser provides for, “We cannot adopt our way out of that. We have to start with spay and neuter first, and this SPAYghetti fundraiser helps us to raise that money for this important endeavor, because it is costly to spay and neuter pets and to have all of that medical care taken care of.”
But Rickmond says the event provides more than just funds – it allows the organization to come face-to-face with long-time donors and pet parents alike. “There are so many folks that come up to us, and they’re like, ‘I’ve been going to this event for fifteen years or, you know, eighteen years,’ or, ‘I adopted a dog from you sixteen years ago, and I still have her, and she’s like the best dog ever.’ You know, those kind of stories are really amazing to hear.”
This year’s SPAYghetti fundraiser will take place tomorrow, beginning at 11 AM, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Roanoke. Guests will be treated to meals catered by Mamma Maria’s in Salem. Tickets can be bought in advance as late as 5:00 PM this evening, or purchased at the door for an additional $3 tomorrow.
